Today we have on Terri Cole! Terri’s new book, Too Much: A Guide to Breaking the Cycle of High-Functioning Codependency ; Too Much is Terri’s handbook on how to break down the characteristics of high-functioning codependency so you can get more clarity around what’s going on under the surface of your behavior and take steps toward better boundaries, inner peace, and integrity. Each chapter brings you insights and practices to transform how you see yourself and the world, honor your own needs, and reclaim the freedom and joy you deserve. Hello, everybody. Welcome to another episode of For You from Eve. We are back with another guest

0:13.0

episode today. You guys know I love to have guests on, especially women, to talk about their

0:17.9

stories, talk about their upbringings, all that great stuff. And I just love when people can share their knowledge as well on the show. Very excited for today's guest episode because this has been planned for a few weeks now. And I'm actually going to be speaking to an author today. So I had some time to dig into their new book. And we're going to be breaking down so many new things. We're going to be talking routine, burnout, all that in this hustle culture, but we're also going to be touching on

0:41.4

codependency, healthy relationships, creating boundaries, imperfections, all that great stuff. So I'm

0:47.2

very excited to introduce and announce Terry Cole, the author of Too Much. So you want to give a

0:52.3

little introduction where you, where you're from, who you are are what you do all that good stuff sure um well i mean i'm from jersey we were just saying we just talked about we're both jersey girls we sure are um i've been a psychotherapist for the past 27 years and before that i was a talent agent for supermodels and celebrities. So it was like a career

1:12.8

switch in my early 30s. I've been obsessed with healthy relationships. And what do they say?

1:22.2

That you teach what you most need to learn. And I think that part of my obsession was,

1:26.8

and before my husband, I really couldn't

1:28.5

figure out the love thing. I was just like, I just don't get it. I don't get how people find

1:33.5

each other, why it looks so easy for some. I really believe that like love was for the lucky.

1:39.3

And I just thought I was unlucky in love, so to speak. And of course, once I had a whole bunch

1:43.9

of therapy, I realized it has nothing to do with luck. And of course, once I had a whole bunch of therapy,

1:44.8

I realized it has nothing to do with luck, and it's all about psychology and your mental health

1:49.0

and how healthy you are. So I had a private practice for many, many years. And I still do, but

1:54.9

not, it's not really like open to the public, let's say. I wrote my first book in 2020. It came out in 2021 called Boundary Boss,

2:03.7

all about boundaries, as you would imagine. And then this book just came out in October. And this is

2:10.0

all about a concept that I originated called high functioning codependency. And it's something that

2:15.9

women in particular have a tendency to suffer from in

2:20.5

relationships where we're overgiving, over functioning, overdoing for our relationships, and then

2:25.8

feeling burnt out, exhausted, resentful, underappreciated. So it's a cycle that we really want to

2:32.4

stop. And that's really what I'm most passionate about
