After yesterday got reined out, Yankees are out west against the other Southern California team in Anaheim against the angels and of course the main

of the evening in the middle of all that 8 o'clock the New York Rangers the Florida

Panthers game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals.

But last night, we were all met with, I would say,

surprising news.

And that surprising news was first broken by Bob Nightingale of all people.

And that is that Angel Hernandez is retiring

effective immediately as a Major League Baseball umpire and there are a few

reasons why this kind of news story should not be glossed over.

We shouldn't just say it move on.

We need to talk about this and I'll tell you why.

For many, many years on this radio station, there have been names we've talked about

passingly there have been names we would talk about just for a few years and then

they go away but how many names have we talked about consistently for over 30

years but one of those names is Angel Hernandez

because Angel Hernandez has impacted all of us. He's impacted Yankee fans, he's

impacted Met fans, He's impacted Met fans. He's impacted baseball fans to the

point where over the last half a decade Angel Hernandez has become a joke.

He's become a running punchline. So yesterday, when I heard the shocking announcement,

I said we need to pay tribute in a fair, fair way.
