Summary

Evan and Tiki look back at their NBA Finals predictions and revisit the moment Evan declared the Knicks were going to win the East. With the Knicks proving him right, Evan takes a victory lap while the crew compares preseason picks, laughs at the misses, and gives Charles Barkley credit for believing in New York too. The conversation also keeps circling back to Evan’s parenting debate after he told his son the major leagues were probably not in his future. Callers weigh in on honesty, youth sports dreams, underhand free throws, and whether parents should protect belief or tell the truth when kids ask big questions.

Tomorrow night we're going to find out what the NBA finals are. Obviously, we know about the Knicks for a while now. We've got the seventh game coming up between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs. And we like to do two different tests here at Evan and Tiki. As soon as the finals are over or the Super Bowl is over, where the World Series is over, the next day, we say, what do you think next year's World Series is going to be? What do you think next year's Super Bowl is going to be?

Obviously, there's no offseason. You may not even know about coaching changes, but it's always a fun exercise. So we did that last year. And then also in October, right as opening night was occurring, we made our more educated, okay, this is what I think is going to happen. Now's the perfect time to check in and see how we did. So I want to take you back to June. This is June 22nd of last year, right after the Oklahoma City Thunder completed winning the NBA finals in the seventh game against the Indiana Pacers when we went around the room and said, all right, it's all being completed. We don't know even where the Knicks are going with their coach yet. Like, we literally didn't know. But what do you think the finals are going to be? And I'm not sure if you guys remember it. I'm pretty sure the audience does remember it. I kind of remember mine. Well, let's start with Tiki then. Tiki Barber in June's NBA finals prediction a year out. Cleveland Cavaliers will beat the Minnesota Timberwolves.

1:42.5

Well before James Hardin.

2:36.2

Let's hear positive Tommy. He was with us at that time. Tommy Lou Gower. The Knicks will face Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets in the finals. At least he got the Knicks. Well, he's almost disqualified because he's always picked the Knicks. So it's one of those like defaults. Like, I don't know. I mean, yes, he's right. You give him credit, but he's always picked the Knicks. Here's what I said right after the NBA finals last year. The Oklahoma City Thunder will win their second consecutive NBA championship and they will defeat the Orlando magic. Yeah. I was high on them. Yeah, they fired their coach. And it was before they even made the trade for Desmond Bay. Right. All right. So that's what we did a year out. Now, right before the season started, much more educated, now we have a better idea of things. How close were we? How close to the pin were we? Let's start off with Tiki Barber.

2:40.7

I'm just going chalk. Oklahoma City Thunder, Cleveland Cavaliers, Thunder repeat.

2:44.5

So let me get this straight. I was close. I was a sweep away.

2:48.1

No, no, you were a sweep away. It depends that Oklahoma City wins tonight.

2:52.2

I just find it funny that you were so adamant about Cleveland.

2:53.8

Yeah, because Cleveland was good.

2:56.1

They were climbing the ladder like the Knicks were.

2:58.1

They were taking the steps.
