As the November election nears, that could send charter opponent Zoran Mamdani to the mayor's office.

And as nationwide, K-12 test scores, meanwhile, continue to

decline. Welcome, I'm Kyle Peterson with the Wall Street Journal. We're pleased to be joined in the

studio today by Ava Moskowitz, the founder and CEO of Success Academy Charter Schools, which

educates about 22,000 K-12 students in New York across close to 60 schools and with more set to open soon in Florida.

Welcome, man. Let's start with the rally last month a few weeks ago. I saw reports of about 15,000 people there representing close to 200 charter schools.

What was the message that they were there to send?

We can't have discrimination against charters.

We can't have unequal funding.

We can't make public school space unavailable for public charters, and we have to respect parent choice.

Elected officials all make choices for their children, and sometimes they want to prevent

others, mostly low-income parents from making the very choices that they make for their own children and that

their parents made for them. Just as some level-based setting, about 150,000 New York children

in charters, about 15% of public school students. Some reports saying about 90% of New York charter school students are black or Latino.

And it seems like there are some concerns about what the next four years might look like for those charter schools.

You know, maybe one way to go at this, I know as an operator of public schools, you maybe want to stay out a little bit of partisan politics.

But it seems like that was the experience over eight years of the Mayor Bill de Blasio mayoralty.
