The far right have made gains in the European elections, but the EU Commission Chief

insist the centre is solid.

We begin with a fallout from the European elections. The EU Parliament has seen an overall

swing to the right. Center-right parties strengthen their majority winning in Germany, Greece, Poland and Spain.

The European Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen said this showed that the centre was solid.

The centre is holding, but it is also true that the extremes on the left and on

the right have gained support and this is why the result comes with great responsibility

for the parties in the centre.

But the far right triumphed in several countries including France.

President Macron called snap parliamentary elections after his party was

trounced by the populist anti-immigrant national rally of his long- rival Maureen Le Penh.
