We're beginning with the escalating sound and fury over the status of Greenland.

Whatever you say about Donald Trump's foreign policy ambitions

and lots of people do have very strong views,

one thing seems unusually clear,

and that is that the insights, often from the President himself,

that he gives us as to what has shaped his thinking.

Today we got the latest revelation, courtesy of a text message he sent the Prime Minister of Norway,

linking the decision not to award him the Nobel Peace Prize, a prize which is not, by the way,

in the gift of the Norwegian government, to his bullish shift in US diplomatic policy over Greenland.

His insistence that the semi-autonomous Danish territory

become a full part of the United States,

his threat to impose extra tariffs on European countries

who've opposed his demand.

We've voiced up part of the President's text message to the Norwegian Prime

Minister. Dear Jonas, considering your country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for

having stopped eight wars plus, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of peace,

although it'll always be predominant, but can now think about

what is good and proper for the United States of America. Mr. Trump has also today reiterated

in a phone interview with the US TV network that he 100% plans to follow through on the imposition

of further tariffs on eight NATO allies within two weeks if they continue
