The next time. Hello, hello everybody and welcome to the total soccer Show. My name is Taylor Rockwell and the Euros are back. So, so are we. We had fireworks here in the U.S. yesterday and we had them again today in Spain v. Germany, a result that lived up to the billing. France, Portugal did as well, though not exactly in the same way. A match we worried might be very dull was mostly that. Here with me to talk it all out, I've got Joe DeShamps is a better manager than Pep, Gordiola. Lowry, hello, Joe. A lot of names in there for you. I just remembered, guys, I had this thing that I had to go do. The thing was called Do Anything Else but talk about how great Deity de Shamps is. My eyes hurt. Well, I'm excited for us to clear out and give Joe the 10-minute runway he asked for it, to just go into all of the brilliant managerial decisions made by the Shamp this evening. But before we can do that, we should introduce our other co-host. Joining us today is a man who thinks Rinaldo was the only good player on the pitch. It's Graham Ruffin. Hi, Graham. You shut your mouth, Tila Rortwell. Just starting us off on a real positive note with those two introductions. You're both welcome. You know what, let's not talk about that game first. Should we go to Spain, Germany? Yes, please. We were all excited for this one, right? and then it did kind of live up to the billing. So that's better, right, Graham? Oh, yeah, absolutely. Of the two games today, it's not even a contest, which was the more entertaining. What a game this was. It was everything I wanted it to be in terms of tension and the game swinging one way and then the other. and yes, lots of technical quality on display as you would expect between these two teams but also

2:22.7

crunching tackles and it was a bit scrappy at points and Danny Carvajal was making

2:27.6

rugby tackles and no shortage of poop houseery in this one so yeah this was my this was my

2:32.5

kind of game I think the imperfections excuse me actually made it a little bit more, made it more entertaining in my book. I loved it. Joe, would you categorize this one as a tactical chess match, or was this a slug fest? What would you go with here? I don't know that it was a slug fest, although there were some key fouls and things like that in this

2:50.8

game. Graham obviously mentions the Carverhal sending off, and there will be some cards that

2:55.0

will have ramifications for the semi-final round for Spain. But to me, this of those two fell

3:00.2

closer to the tactical chess match end of the spectrum, but one that also had very timely and fun

3:05.8

goals. It kind of was the best of both worlds. This was not the greatest game of the tournament so far, but it was a fun game, and it certainly was the best game that we saw today. We had Yulian Nagelsman making some real changes to his lineup that we'll talk about. We had Spain having to make an early change after Tony Crows just straight up glides his way right through Pedri in this first half, four minutes into the game or one minute into the game, whenever it was in the early moments. And then we also had Germany manmarking in Spain trying to find their way through. And we had key substitutions in the second half and beyond. And we had a late equalizer. And then we had a late winner come extra time. There were lots of highs in

3:41.4

this game and it was a fun one. Yeah, it was much more physical than I was expecting, particularly

3:46.2

from Germany. Their approach was very physical and you mentioned that cross tackle on Pedri,

3:51.7

Joe, that sets the tone in the first few minutes. I'm not always in favor of early yellow cards

3:56.5

where they aren't necessarily or they aren't necessary. I thought that was bad refereeing because from that Germany, we're kind of given a licence to kick Spain all over the pitch in the first 20 minutes and then Anthony Taylor, who's the referee in this game, is left in an awkward position where he's having to book other players for lesser fouls than the one that Croce committed. So I thought that set the tone. Actually, it was an example of how a referee can contribute to how a match him pans out. Delafwente was really unhappy about some of the tackles. There was one on Almoh on the edge of the box as well. And I can understand why he was he was unhappy because it was a bit agricultural and maybe this is the Scott and me and me coming out but that just kind of added to as long as I was going to say as long

4:34.8

as nobody gets injured but pedry did get injured and he did look rather distraught about it so we

4:39.4

await and use on how bad the damage is there but it kind of added to the the entertainment

4:44.3

and certainly spoke to the fear that Germany had facing this Spain team that

4:49.6

they felt that was necessary at least in the opening kind of 30 minutes of the game.
