Can a historic formal space become the home to a forward-thinking landscape of native

plants?

The team at Stoneley, a five-year-old public garden on Old Estate in Villanova, Pennsylvania, says the answer is an

emphatic yes, and the horticultural experiments seem to prove that's true.

Its director, Ethan Kaufman, is here today to talk about how he and his team are

reinterpreting the grand old landscape with a native's only ethos that was handed

down to them by the nonprofit called Natural Lands, the conserved the place. Two dozen kinds of

native vines now climb the majestic central stone pergola, it's only in

space defining hedges of white pine and American arborvidee or dwarf

magnolia granda flora are among those redefining the 42-acre landscape.

There's lots of other lessons for home gardeners,

and I'm glad Ethan's here today to share some.
