Recently, Richard Link later screened his latest film Before Midnight at Lackma as part of the film Independent at Lackma screening series, which Elvis curates.

Before Midnight is the sequel to the 1995 romantic drama before sunrise and its 2004 follow-up before sunset.

All three films star Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke

as Celine and Jesse. We meet the couple in Before Sunrise when they first meet each other

two 20-somethings traveling through Europe by train. Their attraction is instant and they

decide to spend a night walking around Vienna,

sharing stories about their lives, their intimate fears, and wildest dreams.

Before sunset, picks up nine years later.

We find a 30-something Jesse in Paris, where he's on tour promoting his book.

Celine seeks him out at a local bookshop, and they pick up right where they left off.

The second film ends in Celine's Parisian apartment, where Jesse is visibly struggling over whether

to stay with her or to get on his flight back to the States where his wife and son are waiting.

Evidently, the two decide to follow their hearts and before midnight opens in Greece,

where Jesse and Celine are vacationing with their beautiful twin daughters.

The romantic urgency of the first two films has faded,

and we spend the day with Jesse and Celine as their vacation winds down,

and their day-to-day reality sets back in.

was recorded after a screening of Before Midnight with director and co-writer Richard Linklater

and stars Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke, who also co-wrote the film.
