Many years ago, I made a mistake by telling my younger brother that he could stay with me

if he ever had to.

It was a statement that I regretted making when, years later, he lost his job and couldn't

find just the right replacement employment. He was unemployed for many years. He burned through

his savings and then his friendships by couch surfing for months on end. Then he came asking to

live with me. I told him that I was not in a position to help him. I've heard it said that it's

better to give a resentment than get one. He developed a resentment toward me that he still carries to this
