You remember a few days ago in the man-eater episode when we talked about Astiagis and his

right-hand man, Harpegas.

Astiagis is the king of the meads, the grandfather of Cyrus, the great.

And Harpegas, his general, was the guy that Astiagis ordered to kill his grandson.

Astiagis is kind of a kooky old man who's paranoid, like a lot of kings are.

He had some visions.

We got a year in my grandson.

He's a threat.

I don't want to kill him.

I don't feel good about it.

But you, Mr. General guy, you do it for me.

And Harpegas was like, I don't know, kill a baby.

I don't think I'm probably going to do that at all.

So he just gave the kid to some shepherds to be raised.

But remember, Cyrus, according to the mythic storytelling of the Greek historian, Herodidus,

was just too awesome.

Then he couldn't keep his awesome, kingly blood under control.

And eventually people were like, wait a day, minute, you're too good at children's games.

You're a king, aren't you?

Well, I guess, I guess you got me.

And then Astiagis, of course, Cyrus his grandpa.

He was real mad because he thought that kid was dead.
