We read the Gospels to meet Jesus Christ. We must read and reread them if we want to come to our own

personal intimacy with our Redeemer. Intimacy of that sort cannot be handed to us by anyone else,

however gifted he may be, whatever the measure of his spiritual insight. We have to make it for

ourselves with Jesus as with any other friend by constantly

meeting him, experiencing him, and meditating on that experience.
