Hi everybody, my name is Marty, I'm a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous, I'm an active

member of the Richmond Lions group in Richmond, British Columbia which is a suburb of Vancouver.

And my sponsor's name is Dick, you don't know Dick, you don't know Dick, and it goes over

better in North America than it does in Europe, I'll tell you that much.

I would sincerely like to thank the committee for having me here, I needed this conference.

You never come to one of these in this place that it is not just outstanding, it's just

an outstanding convention, there's so much energy here.

And I was first of all flattered to be invited and then almost martyred, Jim picked me up

at the airport at 5 o'clock at 5.15, you had the worst hailstorm in the history probably

since the Earth's crust cooled, and the date went down on the airport parking thing and

the first baseball hit the car, which you know if you're me that's not uncommon, but then

I was honest to God, it was like a thousand major league baseball players, sucking balls

at the cars as hard as they could, and I knew they weren't from the blue jeans because

they were hitting the car, you know?

That's just wrong isn't it, that was wrong.

I looked across at my co-pilot, a man obviously four months younger than me, a newcomer, I threw

my body over at his, he said he was already in a relationship.
