Hi everybody, my name is Doug, I'm a grateful alcoholic and I'm grateful to be an alcoholic

and grateful to be a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and the reason I say that, just to piss

off the newcomers, you know, I don't know if that's, you know, I do remember that the

first time I heard somebody say I'm a grateful alcoholic, I thought, and you are more

on, and what an exciting life you must have that the best thing going on for you is you

get to join AA, woo!

But the fact is, I'm absolutely positive that my life today is better because I'm an

alcoholic than I would have been if I hadn't been an alcoholic, I'm the only alcoholic

in my immediate family as far as I know and I'd rather be me than any of them and I'm

not saying that as a condemnation of anybody in my family.

I just, I come from this great family, I mean, I just, I would just, I would just rather

be me, my family, I come from this family and the oldest of four kids, I'm the only boy

and so I guess I was kind of treated with a little extra, you know, something that Kathy

mentioned it, you know, the oldest and the one that was always getting in trouble and, you

know, my family always loved me, I come from this happy, hardworking, musical family, not professional

musicians, just a musical family.
