Welcome to our new friends. Welcome to everyone who identified as being under a year sober. How exciting. How exciting that first year. There's just nothing like the first year sober. It's all new. You've never done it before, is it really going to work, are they

lying to me, people have lied to me, you know what I mean? So much is going on and at the end of

the day the beauty of Alcoholics Anonymous is it doesn't really matter how you feel about it.

This is not that type of program, and if they haven't told you, I have to do that now.

It doesn't matter. It matters what you do. Alcoholism doesn't want us to be here, doesn't want us to be in Porto Bayarda.

He may want us to be in an alley, lying and deceiving someone, but it doesn't want us to be here in the mecca of beauty.

And the mecca of beauty is wherever we come together, celebrating sobriety, celebrating a new life.

What it takes to walk through the doors of Alcoholics Anonymous, let alone get on a plane,

and come here and another variant. You know what I mean like that's just crazy it's a lot and so

especially our friends in their first year you know I celebrate you I am so

excited for you. My responsibility here tonight is to share with you, right? My journey. What it took for me to get here, what it takes for me to stay here, and I'm going to give you the first word is surrender.

I have to be willing to surrender everything I think I know about everything.
