Hi my name is Bob and I'm an alcoholic.

I'm a member of the Happy Way group in Anglewood, Colorado and I didn't pick the name.

See I thought it'd be a lot better if I was part of a group called the beaten into a state of reasonableness group

or at the very least the outright mental defective.

But some sweet little old lady about 50 years ago decided that that was going to be the name of our group

and we've all been joked at ever since then.

It sounds like a bunch of people on Thorazine.

I want to thank John. He's really done a good job.

My God, I've eaten more this weekend than I've eaten for the last two months and he's really done a good job.

I came to alcoholic synonymous in 1968 but I couldn't get it.

I would go to A meetings and people would kind of stroke me.

Back then I thought that A A was just some place you'd turned yourself in.

Do.

And so I knew I was a bad drunk.

So I'd go turn myself in and then...

But the people I saw there didn't look like me.

First of all, I was in my 20s and 30s when I was doing that and all the rest of those folks were much older

and they didn't look like I looked. They didn't look rough.
