My name is Alan, I'm an alcoholic, and in the tradition of the meeting, my sobriety

day is June 23, 1986.

I was 25 when I got sober.

You can do the math if you want to know how old I am.

I was at a meeting the other day, and the chair person stood up there, and he's got six

or seven years, and he said, you know, after all this time, he says, I'm just not nervous

anymore.

I've been doing this for a long time, and I still get nervous, and I think that's a good

sign.

So let's see, the big book says, we share in a general way what we used to be like, what

happened, and what we're like now.

Everybody always says it's what it's like, what happened, and what it's like now.

There is no it, it was what I was like.

What I was like before I got to AA going way back, and I really appreciated your share,

because I really identified with a lot of things.

You know, home life was hard when I was a kid.

I can't tell you that, you know, any one certain thing happened.
