0:17.6	I want to begin by saying that evangelicals really are nice and that this is their problem.
0:22.4	The second thing to say is that the top strata of the evangelical leadership elite is also

0:28.1	Nice is their weapon, their signature move, and the source of their deadliness.
0:32.2	Having begun this way, I must hasten to explain how the whole thing has gotten so muddled

0:37.2	The confusion arises because we tend to think of the whole thing in simplistic terms,
0:41.9	as though we had the nice people over here and the nasty people over there.

0:47.3	What we actually have is a binary situation.
0:50.2	Every group has a nice face, and also a stern face, and everything depends on which direction
0:54.7	they are facing.
0:56.0	And so the ethics of the thing are not determined by whether or not you are nice, but rather
1:00.1	by who you are nice too.
1:02.1	We see a shepherd out in the pasture with the sheep.
1:04.6	Our ethical evaluation of this man is not determined by whether he is nice or not.
1:08.9	Rather, if he is nice to the sheep and mean to the wolves, he is a good man.
1:12.8	If he is nice to the wolves and mean to the sheep, he is not a good man.
1:16.1	If he is cruel to the sheep himself, he is a wolf himself, or else just a hireling.
