You know, if you've followed me at all, you've heard me talk about the fact that family is critical.

I just truly believe it is.

And it's the backbone of this country, and we're not all the same.

There's different kinds of families.

There's blended families, just nuclear families, multi-generational families.

But the interesting thing is you walk down any street past apartment buildings, neighborhoods, high rises, and from the

outside, every door can look the same. But they're not. Behind those doors, the stories

range from warmth and comfort all the way to the unthinkable.

Homes where children, behind those doors that look just like the one next door,

can be children who face horrors like neglect and malnourishment and abuse, incest, and molestation.

And the tragedy is the smaller the victim, the smaller their voice, the weaker their power to do anything about it.

And the greater their need for help.

Now, tonight, we're talking about what it really means to face fear head on.

I'm talking about Rochene, and at the time that we're going to join this story,

Rocheon, and she believed I think quite

accurately that her father was going to kill her. So she made a choice that most teens

could never imagine. She ran away from home. Now she wasn't rebellious, she wasn't in trouble, she wasn't creating problems.

She ran away to save her own life.

But Rochene's story ultimately took a turn that no one could ever imagine

and no one saw coming.

When I was 13 years old, I disappeared from home.

I wasn't lost or anything like that.
