Hello and welcome to Escape pod, your weekly science fiction podcast. I'm Valerie Valdez,

your host for this episode. Our story this week is a flashback from the

archives, Sounding the Fall, by JD Marcade. The story was first published in Escape pod

in July 2015. J. Noun. A 20-something first-gen Korean-American

speculative fiction writer and freshly-minted librarian, currently installed in the Rust Belt with

a hydrabot and a hedgehog, preferred pronoun to enter neutral. A.M. Air.

Likes, thunderstorms, body mods, martial arts, comic books, bioluminescence, cute stationery,

corpuscular skyscrapes, the sea, werewolves, the soul metrosystem, coffee, black, whiskey,

mint, and cheese are plenty. Dislikes, people who talk at the cinema, humidity, werewolves,

and vindictive dead things with too much hair and a penchant for flouting the laws of physics.

Research interests include ambient intelligence environments, augmented reality, cyborg anthropology,

linguistics, mometics, the occult, and spooky stories. Our narrator, Amanda Cheng, is a freelance

editor and writer. Her work is appeared in word-write, candlemark, and Green's Alice

revisions, and every bathroom stall on I-80 from Pittsburgh, Indianapolis.
