Hello and welcome to EscapePod, your weekly science fiction podcast. I'm Valerie Beldes, your host for this episode.

Our story this week is The Hazmat Sisters by Alex Beckett. It was first published by Asmolves in July 2021.

This is the second of two parts. Part 1 was presented last week.

Toronto author and editor, Lex Beckett, figured their youth working as an actor and theater technician in southern Alberta, before deciding to make a shift into writing science fiction.

Their first novella, Freezing Rain, a chance of falling, appeared in the July August issue of the magazine Advanced Science Fiction in 2018.

It takes place in the same universe as The Hazmat Sisters, as well as their novel Steelbreaker and Game Changer.

Lex identifies as Feminist, lesbian, genderqueer, and married. An insatiable consumer of cage dramas, mysteries, and true crime podcasts,

thinking we found enthusing about these in other topics on Twitter at LX Beckett.

Our narrator, Amy Kelly, is an award-winning southern writer with an eclectic range of screenwriting and ghost writing credits.

She graduated from Georgia College and State University, the B.S. in art and marketing, and went on to earn her MFA and creative writing from full-sale university.

Her self-published novels include The Southern Dark Fantasy Series, American Spectre, and The Gala Horror novel Everlasting to Everlasting.

Another sundown, another night on the quest, Mom's check-in is perfunctory, handout XP, confirmation of their route, no mission of abnormal battery use, so they got away once again with their secret confab.

She seems distracted, things must be getting hot at the Chicago call center, the girls push Mule along in the refugee fast lane, passing slower moving families with kids and the occasional massive elder.

Some of them are dragging smart cases. The real unfortunate are chipping the wheels off actual antique shopping carts, mile by brutal mile.
