Hello, and welcome to Escape Pod. I'm your host and co-editor, Murr Lafferty. This week,

we bring you the Contrary Gardener Part 2 of 2 by Christopher Rowe. Christopher's stories

have been published, reprinted, and translated around the world. He has been a finalist

for the Hugo, Nebula, World Fantasy, and other awards. He lives in Lexington, Kentucky

with his wife, novelist Gwenda Bond. It's narrated for us by Amy H. Sturgis, a PhD in

intellectual history, and specializing in the field of science fiction and fantasy and

indigenous American studies. He is regular staff with a starship sofa podcast, editor

and chief of Hocus Pocus Comics, and faculty at LaNoura Ryan University. She lives with

her husband in the foothills of North Carolina. This story was first published in Eclipse Online

in October 2012, and has been reprinted in several Best of the Year anthologies. Previously,

in Part 1, Caitlin is a simple gardener who plants under the radar, tries to follow rules

such as don't grow too much because we don't approve of excess, and the most rebellious

she gets is when she plants things that her father disapproves of, and yet she still
