Escape Pod, Summer Flashback, Episode I'm going to do. Hey everyone. Welcome to Flashback Friday. We're doing something a little different this week. In fact, I'm welcoming you not only to Flashback Friday, but to Summer School.

Don't worry, none of us are trapped like rats. There's no need for

tension breakers and please understand if you've got that reference. I am high-filing you, all eight of you, right now.

Rather, this is a chance for us to use the flashback Friday format

to take a deep dive into some major concepts or sub-genres of science fiction. So I'm going to be your host

for three weeks out of the month for the next three months.

And in that time I'm going to pull out a trio of stories, each one of which, in those packs of three, explores or dives into a particular genre or concept in a variety

of interesting ways. Three episodes, three flashbacks, each placed in a wider context in that context

itself examined.

Each episode will still stand by itself, don't worry, but each one will also combine with the others

to create a larger exploration of a really cool part of contemporary genre fiction. We're even

working on making the text for the NCAPS plus recommended media follow-ups and

extra reading available. That should be hitting sometime after the third

episode. By the after the third episode.

By the way the fourth episode will be a selection of flash fiction

the first one of which is presented by Mer.

So that will be along at the end of the month and then I'll be back the week after that to pick back up.

Sound good? Great. Let's talk about

cyberpunk. First off, the literal definition of it. A genre of science fiction set in a

lawless subculture of an oppressive society

dominated by computer technology which is a really roundabout way of saying

20-20 isn't that fake laugh real pain.
