U.G. Foster passed away on September 27th, 2014 of respiratory failure related to lymphoma at Emory University in Atlanta.

She lived in Atlanta with her husband Matthew Foster and her work was shortlisted and won a pile of awards.

Her story, when it ends, he catches her.

Published the day before her death, was nominated for the 2015 Nebula Award.

Award for Short Fiction, or the U.G Award for Short Fiction or the UG Award for Short celebrates the best and innovative

fiction.

This annual award is presented at DragonCon, the nation's largest fan-run convention. The UG Award Short List for the Best Short Stories of 2018 will be announced after the

unmasking.

The UG Award honors stories that are irreplaceable that inspire, enlighten, and entertain.

It looks for stories that are beautiful, thoughtful, and passionate and change us and the

field. The recipient is a story that is unique and will

become essential to speculative fiction readers. Previous winners include

stories by Catherine M. Valente, N. K. Jemison, and Fran Wild.
