Summary

This episode completes our basic macro rewind trilogy with Eric Helms. This was the fourth episode of the show, but the third we recorded back in 2018. We’ll be back with brand new episodes next week.

Original show notes:
We spend a few minutes discussing the documentary “Transformer” about Janae Marie Kroczaleski…and our small part in it. We also discuss streaming services and how hard it is to get everything we want to watch in one place these days.
Then, we jump into fat. We know that fat has the most calories per gram of the three macros, and that people on ketogenic diets eat a lot of it. Beyond that, we have a lot more questions:
Why does fat make everything delicious?
Is oil just liquid fat?
Do you burn more fat when you eat more fat?
Are there really good fats and bad fats?
Eric Helms, PhD. helps us figure these things out.
Our ideas about the question start around 12:45.
Eric runs down the facts starting at around 19:13.
Eric has a BS in fitness and wellness, an MS in exercise science, a second masters in sports nutrition, a PhD in strength and conditioning, and is a research fellow for AUT at the Sports Performance Research Institute New Zealand.
Huge thanks to Eric for being our expert. You can find him at 3DMuscleJourney.com, muscleandstrengthpyramids.com, and on Instagram: @helms3dmj

Hey, this is Jim again.

This was our fourth episode of the show, but actually the third episode that we recorded

0:09.1

with AiriCelms and we're talking about dietary fat.

0:13.6

This sort of completes the set of the three.

0:16.2

So I'm stuck them together this way this time and we will be back with a brand new episode

0:21.6

next week.

0:22.6

But I believe that this series of rewind episodes will continue because the beginning of the

0:28.0

show is very different and there's a lot of basic information that we don't really

0:33.1

cover that often anymore that I think is helpful to people and the downloads seem to show

0:38.6

that that's the case.

0:39.6

So enjoy this third episode with AiriCelms and we'll talk to you more like real time next

0:46.7

week.

1:15.6

This is totally off the subject, but on the subject I understand that Facebook was

1:23.4

messing with view counts on Facebook video to make it look like it had greater reach than

1:32.2

it did.

1:34.8

And there are organizations that basically fired writers and hired video people because

1:41.9

they were looking for more reach.

1:43.6

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, and Facebook wants it to look like they have a billion people

1:47.0

on their platform all day long.

1:48.6

Yes, and so they made this major shift and all these writers are out of work and the

1:54.3

content, I mean video content is important, but every time that I go to a newspaper site

2:02.9

to read an article about something, I don't need the video.
