Turkey's election has been called the most important in the world this year.

And polls in the leader said the country's long-time president,

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was headed for defeat.

As we headed towards the vote on Sunday,

felt like the opposition had the momentum.

Erdogan is an authoritarian.

His main opposition ran on the promise it would release political prisoners,

relax control of the media, transform Turkey from a country with an all-powerful president,

back to a democracy with a parliament that had a proper say.

The government's response to devastating earthquakes in February and a struggling economy

are seen as top voter concerns.
