0:19.3	Today we'll be looking at Matthew chapter 13, verses 51 and 52
0:23.7	as we continue our kingdom series. We're in chapter number 24, get out your Bibles. We'll be looking

0:59.0	Okay, friends, I appreciate your patience as we get toward Matthew 13, but first, we should pray because
1:05.4	we really need God's help us understand His Word. Our God, it is important for us to know your thoughts are indeed
1:13.8	your thoughts and only as we rely on the instruction of your spirit cannot happen. So Lord,
1:19.0	give us your insight today. We ask it in Jesus' name. Amen. Okay, now Matthew 13, 51 through 52, is a passage that has some context around it,
1:30.3	obviously, and what's just happened is that Jesus has taught his disciples a series of parables
1:36.9	about his kingdom. We've just finished those in the previous days. And so Jesus summarizes all of
1:43.9	those parables by asking them a question.
1:46.9	He says, have you understood all these things?
1:50.4	They said to him, yes.
1:53.0	And he said to them, therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven
1:59.4	is like a master of a house who brings out of his
2:03.2	treasure what is new and what is old. Isn't that kind of a cryptic description? I don't mean that
2:11.6	in a negative way. It's just a little bit mysterious in the way that it is said. So what is Jesus getting at? Well, he's saying, if you are a
2:22.3	student of the kingdom, that's what he means by the word scribe, if you're a student of the
