Episode 33, St. Homo Bonus. Hi there.

In this episode of Lent with the Saints, we're going to hear about St.

Homa bonus and a time when he tried to take care of the poor, but it didn't turn out so well.

Have you ever tried to help someone, but ended up doing the wrong thing?

You meant well, but it didn't turn out right.

Maybe you baked cookies for your family, but you put salt in the cookie dough instead of sugar,

or you offered to watch your baby sister,

and then had to bring her back to your mother after five minutes because you couldn't get her

to stop crying. Sometimes we fail, despite our best intentions. Even the saints found this.

Loving and serving Jesus doesn't mean you don't make mistakes.

We all do.

And sometimes when the saints gave alms, things didn't turn out exactly as they hoped.

Take the story of St. Homo Bonus, for example.

St. Homobonus was the son of a tailor in Cremona, Italy. His name meant good man, and

Homobonus wanted to be a good man, but being good didn't always come easily to him. Homobonus's father was a tailor.

He sold cloth and made coats and shoes. When he was a boy,

Homobonus worked in his father's shop, selling cloth to customers.

Homobonus noticed that there were poor people outside his father's shop who did not have enough money to buy a cloak for the winter.

That upset him, why did some people not have enough

money to keep warm, while others had much more than they actually needed? Homobonis decided to take

matters into his own hands. He decided to cheat the wealthy nobles who bought cloth from him
