In this episode of Lent with the Saints, I want to tell you about St. John Bosco

and how entertaining others can be a way to give alms.

Have you ever walked up to a game that was already going, and no one asked you to join in? Everyone was playing, and you were standing there not sure where to go or what to do.

How would you feel if one of the players called you by name and shouted,

Hey, come join my team! We really need a good player like you.

I bet you'd be delighted and run onto the field to join in.

That's how we want to make the people around us feel.

We want them to feel happy and taken care of, accepted, appreciated, and loved.

During Lent, we practiced giving alms not just by giving away money or food,

but by caring for our friends' hearts, like Jesus would.

St. John Bosco is a great example of how to take care of our friends' hearts.

John Bosco was an Italian priest who loved to play soccer, juggle, and even do magic tricks.

He ran a school for boys in his city. Some of the boys who came to him were very sad and needed Father Bosco to

cheer them up. Let's listen to what it was like to be at Father Bosco's school.

This is where we spend most of our afternoons, weather permitting, though Father Bosco has been known to keep the games going in the day.

Buh, sounds fun.

Good muddy fun.

Of course, Mama Bosco is never pleased when we tracked that mud into her kitchen.
