| 0:47.0 | Maybe your mother is giving up chocolate or your big brother is giving up TV. |
| 0:51.6 | These are examples of fasting. Do you know why people fast and give things up in Lent? |
| 0:58.6 | We fast so we can have more room in our heart to love Jesus and our family and friends. |
| 1:04.2 | When we give things up or deny ourselves some things we like out of love for Jesus and others, |

| 1:12.6 | Can you say that word? Penance. It comes from the Latin word for being sorry, and that tells us |
| 1:19.9 | what it means. When we're sorry for something, we do penances to make things right again. |

| 1:28.7 | apologize to the person who owned it and maybe even offered to replace it. That's a kind of penance. |
