Well, we're back to the main narrative. This episode we'll be discussing Napoleon Bonaparte's roots.

At various times in his career, Napoleon either emphasized or downplayed his Corsican origins in public, which ever looked more advantageous given the circumstances.

But his own writings and private correspondence make it clear he was profoundly influenced by the history and culture of the island where he was born.

Napoleon left Corsica as a child and only spent a few years on the island as an adult. But during his adolescence he saw himself and was seen by others as a Corsican rather than a Frenchman.
