Summary

Here is one of the bravest, and most tender, yet most pathetic figures in all history: a patriot as well as a prophet. He is known as the "Weeping Prophet": he watched his nation decline and finally fall under God's judgment. During Jeremiah's 40 years of ministry, he never received a hint of gratitude. As one of the most important of the "Major Prophets," Jeremiah is a rich, rewarding study. It is full of surprises, deeply touching episodes, and extremely moving reading. It is also, in many ways, profoundly timely for us today! The book of Lamentations is also included on this commentary. The book of Lamentations is a complete book in itself, a five-chapter book that is sort of an appendix to the book of Jeremiah. The book of Lamentations is his outpouring, where he essentially mourns for Jerusalem. The poor guy on the one hand was faithful in his office as a prophet, he told forth what God had told him to tell forth, and Jerusalem was going to be judged for her iniquity. On the other hand, Jeremiah was a patriot, his roots were there and his emotional commitment to Judah was absolutely uncompromising. This study contains 22 hours of verse by verse teachings. Yeah. 37 through 39. Look at Jeremiah.

We are at chapter 37, and we will probably take chapters 37, 8, and 9 tonight.

Go a little faster than we normally do in terms of covering

material, but it's pretty straightforward material, actually. We're in the historical part of the

book. As I've emphasized before, the book is not in chronological order, and therefore it causes

1:08.1

a lot of confusion. Fortunately, that various passages are fairly well-dated

by their context, but it is an assemblage of various presentations. But at this point, we are,

1:18.8

it's kind of easy because it will be an order. That is, we're dealing with King Zatakaia.

There's about 18 years that have passed since last Monday night.

1:28.3

I may feel like that to you, depending on it worked.

1:31.3

But anyway, in chapter, between 36 and chapter 37, about 18 years have slipped by us here.

1:37.3

Zetakai, as we're coming to the twilight of the whole routine, we're going to discuss here the fall of Jerusalem in these three chapters.

1:46.9

We've been talking, Jeremiah has been talking about it for, what has it been, 40 years?

1:51.1

Zetakia has, he's been reigning for about 11 years since the previous rebellion.
