Summary

Here is one of the bravest, and most tender, yet most pathetic figures in all history: a patriot as well as a prophet. He is known as the "Weeping Prophet": he watched his nation decline and finally fall under God's judgment. During Jeremiah's 40 years of ministry, he never received a hint of gratitude. As one of the most important of the "Major Prophets," Jeremiah is a rich, rewarding study. It is full of surprises, deeply touching episodes, and extremely moving reading. It is also, in many ways, profoundly timely for us today! The book of Lamentations is also included on this commentary. The book of Lamentations is a complete book in itself, a five-chapter book that is sort of an appendix to the book of Jeremiah. The book of Lamentations is his outpouring, where he essentially mourns for Jerusalem. The poor guy on the one hand was faithful in his office as a prophet, he told forth what God had told him to tell forth, and Jerusalem was going to be judged for her iniquity. On the other hand, Jeremiah was a patriot, his roots were there and his emotional commitment to Judah was absolutely uncompromising. This study contains 22 hours of verse by verse teachings. Music 30 through chapter 31 verse 30. If you are going to pick a portion of Jeremiah, if you, to dig into chapters 30 through 33, are in the minds of many scholars the high point of the

book of Jeremiah. A little background for any of you that might be new with this. Jeremiah is

1:05.5

regarded as one of the holiest, most spiritual men of the Old Testament. That can become

1:09.6

as a shock, but he has just held an incredibly high regard, and the more you get to know the man,

1:14.8

the more, frankly, amazing it is that his book is not more widely studied.

1:20.8

Superficially, it's pretty heavy.

1:23.6

Well, it is pretty heavy, but I mean superficially, that's what many people, that's all they see.

1:26.9

There's much in here that is exciting, revealing, far beyond the very heavy message that he had

1:36.2

where he had to describe to his nation that God was going to judge it and taking the captivity,

1:41.4

and God was going to use the instruments as instruments,

1:45.2

their enemies, namely the Babylonians. And of course, much of the book has and will continue to

1:49.7

be dealing with that subject. However, in these four chapters, chapters 31, 32, and 33,

1:56.9

they collectively stand alone, stand apart.

The message, the tone, the depth, many things about them will be quite different.
