And so it was that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be

delivered, and she brought forth her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes

and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the end.

These words are obviously familiar to most of us because of various Christmas pageants

and what have you.

The fact that Jesus was called Mary's firstborn implies that she later had other children. Firstborn is also a title of position, not just sequence.

Later on in Matthew 13, it says, is not this the carpenter's son?

Is not his mother called Mary?

And his brethren, James, Joseph, and Simon, and Judas, are they not still with us?

Mark 6 quotes much the same thing.

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joseph of Judas and Simon,

and are not his sisters here with us?

So we know that Jesus apparently was a family of at least seven siblings, as it would be,

four brothers and at least two maybe more sisters.
