Summary

Dr. Chuck Missler, a widely recognized Biblical authority, explores the background, and myths, surrounding our favorite holiday. What really happened in Bethlehem two thousand years ago? Who were the "Magi?" Why a virgin birth? What does a Christmas Tree have to do with it? Each year at Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. After the New Year, we struggle to remember to add a year as we date our checks, which should remind us that the entire Western World reckons its calendar from the birth of the One who changed the world more than any other before or since. It is disturbing to discover that much of what we have been taught about the Christmas season seems to be more tradition than truth. 0:36.6	Session 2. What really happened?
0:46.9	It's interesting, these magi, that we looked at what the scripture says,
0:51.2	and we have a little bit of perspective of the political, geopolitical
0:55.0	environment. It's interesting to see the incredible traditions that have risen around these
1:01.2	magi. In the Eastern Church, there weren't three, they're 12th. And Christmas is 12 days,
1:09.0	12 days of Christmas. Their Christmas is January 6th, not December 25th.
1:14.2	But again, that's just an Eastern Orthodox tradition.
1:17.5	In about the third century, these wise men suddenly become kings bearing gifts.
1:23.2	And the reason they do that in part is because of Psalm 72, which goes on about how the kings
1:28.4	of the world are going to come and give him gifts, probably meaning the millennium.
1:32.3	But they figure that's why they're calling these, they figure maybe this is a fulfillment.
1:36.3	They start calling him kings.
1:38.2	In the Western tradition, most of us are derivative from the Reformation probably and thus
1:43.4	derivative from the medieval church.
1:45.6	There are three of these because there were three gifts.
1:48.2	Christmas is December 25th for the reasons we reviewed earlier.
