In today's study, Chuck continues his teaching on the Book of Mark, Chapter 12.

Music 12. Even worse than the Pharisees, there's another group called the zealots.

They were actually open rebellions.

And we counted some of them at the cross.

And when they were come, they say unto him,

Master, we know that thou are true, and carest for no man, for thou regardest not the person of men,

but teach us the way of God in truth. Can you see their mouth dripping with this flattery,

you know, hypocrisy, of course? So having set that as sort of their opening statement, you know, we know that you're true

and you care for no man and you regard it's not the person, man, and you teach the way

of God in truth, is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?

They thought they were hoisting him here on his own pittard, if you will, because no matter

which way he answers he's going to lose.

If he says they're going to give tribute to Caesar, that's going to alienate the nationalists.

If he says you shouldn't give tribute, that's going to make him guilty of a crime.

So they thought they had him caught here.

And after this insincere flattery, there's a subtle trap here.
