Summary

Here is one of the bravest, and most tender, yet most pathetic figures in all history: a patriot as well as a prophet. He is known as the "Weeping Prophet": he watched his nation decline and finally fall under God's judgment. During Jeremiah's 40 years of ministry, he never received a hint of gratitude. As one of the most important of the "Major Prophets," Jeremiah is a rich, rewarding study. It is full of surprises, deeply touching episodes, and extremely moving reading. It is also, in many ways, profoundly timely for us today! The book of Lamentations is also included on this commentary. The book of Lamentations is a complete book in itself, a five-chapter book that is sort of an appendix to the book of Jeremiah. The book of Lamentations is his outpouring, where he essentially mourns for Jerusalem. The poor guy on the one hand was faithful in his office as a prophet, he told forth what God had told him to tell forth, and Jerusalem was going to be judged for her iniquity. On the other hand, Jeremiah was a patriot, his roots were there and his emotional commitment to Judah was absolutely uncompromising. This study contains 22 hours of verse by verse teachings. 1:00.3	power that's actually far to the east, but you'll always hear it spoken of as if it's to the north.
1:06.6	And that may puzzle you. When you read the Bible, you wonder, when Babylon threatens Jerusalem,
1:12.1	it's from the north, and you say, that's kind of crazy. Well, there's an Arabian desert
1:15.0	that caused them to go north and then south. So they're coming to, whenever they attack Jerusalem,
1:20.1	they attack from the north, even though they're, you know, a couple hundred miles, their head
1:24.6	with Babylon is a couple hundred. If you look a map, you know, it's several hundred miles to the east.
1:29.7	But the path to get to Jerusalem is actually a northerly passage, okay?
1:34.2	So if you understand the topography of the land, the geography of the land, they come from the north.
1:40.0	And Israel was like a land bridge between that northern area and Egypt.
1:46.0	So is Egypt and whoever, be it Babylon or Assyria or the Romans,
1:52.0	wherever the war is going on, Israel's right in the passageway.
