Welcome to the Stephen King cast, one man's musings on the works of Stephen King.

Each week we'll examine a different entry in the bibliography of Stephen King in the chronological

order of publication.

Today we'll be reviewing 1980s smoking hot hit, Firestarter.

And everyone, today's podcast is really, it's a milestone.

With Firestarter, we've gotten out of the 70s. We're smack dab in the 80s, baby.

I cannot wait to see what this decade has in store for Stephen King works.

Now, before we get into the Wikipedia summary, I really want to just talk a little bit about how I felt when I was reading this.

Because as you know, Stephen King has considered the master of horror and has been since the very

beginning of his career, right off the bat with Carrie.

But as I've sat down to reread each book for this podcast, I find that calling him the master

of horror is a very limited description for his abilities. And at the time of

the release of Firestarter, I wouldn't even call it an accurate title. So I mean, let's just

take a moment and look at the books. So Carrie was published in 1974, and it takes place in

the not too distant future of 1979. Now, although there's an iconic scene involving a lot of blood,

I'd say that the major plot point of the story, the girl with powers, is explained with science,

and as a result, I would call that a science fiction story. Now, Salem's Lot and Shining,

I'm going to give them the title of horror. Those are two horror novels. You know, the former

is about a small town infested with vampires, and the latter is a haunted house story two horror novels. You know, the former is about a small town

books two and three are horror. And then, you know, Stephen King published Night Shift,
