I'm your host Matt Smith and with me today is Dr. Rianne Evans, Associate Professor in

Classic Sand Ancient History at Latrobe University.

This is episode C-L-X-X-X-V, the second trim for it.

After his victory in the Battle of Nutina, Octavian desired honours that the Senate declined

to give him.

This made him reevaluate who his enemy truly was and make an alliance with the recently

defeated Mark Antony.

He is Rianne Evans.

Let's start this podcast with a bit of a lay of the land.

We've extensively got Octavian camped outside Nutina having just won a big victory or at least

being the last man standing who has won a big victory thanks to the death of two consoles.

He has a big consolidated army, which the Senate is saying it's not yours and belongs

to Decimus Brutus, who's currently in Nutina.

Antony has gone off towards Gaul, which is good for him, but for our circumstances he's

going to go across the Alps.

Cassius and Brutus are over east raising an army and the Senate is probably packing it.

Is that a good distillation of the lay of the land at the moment?

Well, as long as everyone understands your colloquial terminology at the end of the day.

I think there's a lot of context there that they can join a few dots.

Things are quite chaotic and disparate.
