The treacherous death of Galleanus saw the rise of a man of war.

Claudius Gothicus definitely earned his title.

And since he only reigned for two years, perhaps he had the right kind of impact without

leaving too much of a bad impression.

For an emperor in the third century that was more than enough.

And he left an example for all who followed after.

The Roman Empire is in a bit of disarray.

The so-called Gallic Empire, that's a modern term.

But there are separatist emperors ruling in Gaul, Britain and Spain.

And Galleanus before his death was trying to take back those provinces.

And then we also have issues in the East with Septimius Odenathus, who is controlling

the East in the name of Galleanus.

But he was also murdered as well, which created a power vacuum, which we'll be talking about

in this one of episodes too.

So we are now at the point where there is currently a siege in which Ariolas has found

himself out of his depth, I think is the best way to put this, declared for the Gallic

Empire.
