All right, everybody. Welcome to the show, Crystal Kyle and friends. Today we're going to be talking

to Rana Faruhar, who is an expert in what I would call Crystal's favorite topic, which

is the era of neoliberalism coming to an end.

And what comes next?

Or are we right smack dab in the middle of it? This is a debate you've seen us have about

17,000 times, but now we have an expert who we brought in who wrote a phenomenal book.

I know you're a very big fan of the book.

Yeah.

The book is called Homecoming. Rana is a columnist. She's actually associate editor at the Financial

Times and a global business columnist. She's like sort of a labor kind of mainstream labor

democratic. I guess this is how I describe her. So our politics are probably a little to

the left of hers, but she is deeply knowledgeable about the world economy. She's been a critic

of US trade policy, very pro union. And I read another one of her book's makers and takers,

which talks about the incredible financialization in our economy and how so much of our economy

is just like fake Wall Street engineering, which was also a really important book. This

one takes an optimistic look at both the Biden administration's policies and how this

could pretend a new transition away from like market fundamentalism and unfettered globalism

towards a little bit more sort of localism in a positive way. We'll see balance between

corporations and national interests. We're going to see if she can convince me because

you know I'm the skeptic on this question. So yes, we'll see. We'll see if she can do that.
