Vance is a conservative, right?

Right. He's still a right wing.

He's still a Republican guy.

So he's looking at these, the causes of poverty, right?

But he wants people to talk about it in a very singular way. And I think what he wants is sympathy on his terms, right?

Where you have to respect the culture there from, but what he doesn't want is any political engagement with that

culture outside of basically Republican economics.

Right, exactly.

So he does, you use the term sleight of hand, that's exactly right.

So he wants us to not condescend to this culture,

but he refuses to talk about it in any way other than what lines up almost perfectly with right-wing talking points.

What does he want people like, let's say someone like me, to respect in that?

Like, what is he, what is it, where is the sympathy he wants to come from?

What is the respect he wants to come from?

And I think from what I can

glean from this, the answer boils down to their patriotism, their sort of religiosity,

and all of the things that right- wing social conservatives extol in

nor in white people basically right you're supposed to like all of the stuff that makes them vote Republicans when they do

exactly and hate all the stuff that conforms with the stereotype of black urban culture.

Yeah.
