Throughout the history of this show,

we've talked about nearly all the major sea powers

that somehow impacted the story of pirates and piracy.

Accepting the Asian nations and Portugal to some extent which we've yet to discuss

and we're going to discuss them a lot more in the near future, the big four here

were Spain, England, France, and the Netherlands.

There are obvious reasons there.

So far, most of our story has taken place in the West Indies.

Those four nations commanded the sea power necessary to claim their own slices of the new world,

but three of them were relative newcomers to the game.
