1970 at a place called Fairy Meadow just over an hour's drive south of

Sydney. So my sources tonight are The Guardian newspaper,

Anyway, Fairy Meadow, it's a beachside suburb and in the 1970s it hosted a migrant hostel just off from the beach.

This was the Balgowney migrant workers hostel.

It consisted of maybe a hundred or more Nissan and Quonset Huts. Now these are cheap and easy to erect and

although hot and humid in the summer I heard like little ovens they were okay

to help you get a leg up so you could move on and
