In 2002, Buzz Aldrin punched a guy in the face.

The then 72-year-old former astronaut cocked back his fist and socked a guy hard in the

jaw.

Even better, the whole thing was caught on camera.

Now what could have possibly inspired one of America's most celebrated national heroes

to so unapologetically deck someone?

This incident seems below the dignity of someone like Buzz Aldrin.

History-making scientists and explorers don't typically get into street fights.

But when we consider who Aldrin punched in the face, the whole thing starts to make

a little more sense.

The guy on the other end of Aldrin's fist was a filmmaker by the name of Bart Cibral.

In 2001, Cibral had made a film entitled A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Moon,

in which he dusted off and made some updates to one of the most well-loved conspiracy theories

propagated over the last 50 years.

That the moon landings did not actually happen.

In 2002, he thought he would double down on his assertions and tried to lure Aldrin into

a gothya style interview.

Apparently, the former astronaut had been told that he was going to be interviewed at a

Beverly Hills Hotel by a Japanese television crew who were making a children's show about

space.

When Aldrin got there, he was accosted by Cibral, who thrust a Bible atom and demanded that

he swear on it that he had actually walked on the moon.
