Welcome everybody to Crystal Kyle and Friends. Today we are talking to Vivek Chibber who is,

I mean, he's an ex, is he a polypsi professor or what exactly sociology professor at NYU?

Yeah.

He has a phenomenal theory of politics that we want to talk with him about.

I have my own ideas. I want to float by him, see what he thinks of them. But the guy knows a lot

about the history of socialism, the different flavors and varieties of socialism. So there's

going to be, you know, we're going to, we're going to go deep with him today. It's going

to be very nerdy.

Well, here's what I love about Vivek that makes him such an interesting and unusual thinker

is that he is deeply grounded in like the theory and the ideas and the philosophy, but

he's also very grounded in reality. Sometimes you don't always get that combination.

He's just out with a new book that I highly recommend. It's called Confronting Capitalism.

How the world works and how to change it. So he lays out his own sort of theory of political

change, which I think is super, super relevant for where we are right now as a country as

a world and also as a left movement.

Yeah, he's not as dismissive of the social democracies as a lot of socialists are. And that

makes me immediately like him.

He's not dismissive of social democracies. He's not dismissive of the fact that you have

to engage with politics, even within the present archetype and regime. So a lot of thoughtful

things to get into with him as we're at this pivot point in terms of the direction of our

national politics.

Yeah, so before we get into that though, there's a couple things we wanted to talk about.
