The Greetings everyone, this is Brian, to my writer Simon. Together we are so de jerker and this is our podcast.

Joining us for today's episode is the songwriting partnership behind a Grammy-nominated

US folk rock trio whose well-crafted, warm, tuneful brand of Americana propelled them to international acclaim back in 2012.

In April 2016 they released their second album, Cleopatra, a more than worthy successor

to their impressive self-titled debut, and they've very kindly taken a little time

out of their hectic tour schedule to have a chat with us about their songwriting.

We are delighted to welcome Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Freight of the luminiers to the show.

You'll hear our conversation in a few minutes, but first we'll tell you a little about them.

Lead singer Wesley and percussionist to Jeremiah both grew up in Ramsey, New Jersey

and began writing and performing around New York City together in 2005.

I read that one of the early incarnations of the band was called Free Beer.

It's a pretty good market employee when you think about it.

Yeah, I'm guessing it caused some confusion at gig venues though.

Probably attracted the ire of venue owners, no doubt.

The name the lumeniers arose from a misunderstanding at a gig too, didn't it?

Yeah, I believe they were mistakenly announced by that

name and they thought it was a good one so they just put a definite article in front of it and voila.

If only all band names landed in your lap like that, eh?

The guys struggled to establish themselves in the ultra competitive New York scene and in 2009 relocated

to Denver, Colorado, where they played the open mic spot at a popular local club, meadow lark every Tuesday night and began to build a following

they met the third lumenier cellist and backing vocalist Niella Picarek around this time via a craiglist ad

the eponymous first album, written over a three-year period,
