Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Feminist Mormon Housewives podcast.

I'm your host, Lindsay, bringing you another episode in the Year of Polygamy series, where we try to understand and untangle the practice

of Mormon plural marriage. And today, this episode is called polygamy as art, which we're

sort of veering away from the historical aspects for a moment and talking about how we contextualize polygamy now and how Mormon women deal with polygamy.

I have two guests on this podcast for this episode.

Leslie Olpen Peterson and Melissa Layloni Larson, who are going to talk about why they used polygamy as sort of a medium to express their art.

So our first interview today is with Leslie, and then Melissa Lailani will be in the second part.

So Leslie, can you say hello?

Hi, Lindsay.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and who you are?

Yes, I am a five-generation Mormon, raised in the church, married in the temple.

I've been a Relief Society president, raised my children in the church, pretty much traditional

all the way through, nothing too out of the ordinary.

I think what's more interesting is my art background versus my

religious background. Five years ago, my Tongan son-in-law, who is an amazing athlete, a college

football player and a college rugby player, was playing rugby and someone

tackled him by the neck and he had a massive stroke.

And he almost died.

Three years ago, my daughter called me up and said, mom, if I pay for you to take an art

class, will you take Paul?

I think it would be really good therapy for him.
