Summary

Anthony Corsaro is an entrepreneur, investor, and regenerative agriculture evangelist whose mission is to help heal our people and planet through ventures that inspire the production and consumption of healthy, nutrient-dense foods. Anthony's family has been deeply involved in the food system for almost 100 years since his orphaned grandfather started selling produce in the early 1930s. That business grew into one of the country's leading regional fresh produce distributors and today serves 2,500+ retail customers in 20 states.

Anthony is the Founder and Managing Director at Outlaw Ventures: a family office backing the rebels, radicals, and revolutionaries building the better food system of tomorrow. Outlaw Ventures is raising a venture capital fund to invest in early-stage regenerative consumer brands. Anthony is also the Creator and Co-Host of The ReGen Brands Podcast: a podcast about the consumer brands supporting regenerative agriculture and how they're changing the world. He is also the Founder of Regeneration Nation: a clothing company and community hub for the heroes and advocates of regenerative agriculture.

In this conversation, John and Anthony discuss:

  • Regenerative vs. extractive relationships in supply chains

  • Building regenerative infrastructure to create better routes to market

  • Increasing market accessibility for growers

  • Nutritional integrity and its impact on buyers

  • "Upstream Disease" - examining the whole supply chain

  • Opportunities and limiting factors for growers

  • The importance of networking to expand market access

Support For This Show & Helping You Grow
Since 2006, AEA has been on a mission to help growers become more resilient, efficient, and profitable with regenerative agriculture.

AEA works directly with growers to apply its unique line of liquid mineral crop nutrition products and biological inoculants. Informed by cutting-edge plant and soil data-gathering techniques, AEA's science-based programs empower farm operations to meet the crop quality markers that matter the most.

AEA has created real and lasting change on millions of acres with its products and data-driven services by working hand-in-hand with growers to produce healthier soil, stronger crops, and higher profits.

Beyond working on the ground with growers, AEA leads in regenerative agriculture media and education, producing and distributing the popular and highly-regarded Regenerative Agriculture Podcast, inspiring webinars, and other educational content that serve as go-to resources for growers worldwide.

Hi friends, this is John. Welcome back to the regenerative agriculture podcast, where we usually talk about agronomic science and cultural management practices and everything that relates to regenerative agriculture out in the field and how it applies to human health and all that fun stuff. But today I want to talk about something a little bit different. I want to talk about what is needed to actually scale regenerative supply chains and supply webs,

0:24.6

not just what is needed in the field, but what do we actually need to make this work on scale?

0:29.6

Over the last year, I've given a number of keynotes at different events where I've talked about how

0:36.6

we're in this situation where once more large CPG companies are putting all of the responsibility and all the

0:42.5

pressure for regeneration on their sources on the farmers who are producing food and the frame

0:49.2

the conversation is being framed around we need to verify or certify regenerative farmers.

0:56.6

And that to me is a problem, because what we really need is regenerative supply webs and supply

1:03.0

chains that regenerate the capacity for stewardship.

1:07.1

And by regenerate the capacity for stewardship, I mean that we need to pay our farmers really well.

1:12.4

We need to pay people well.

1:13.4

If we want to regenerate landscapes, we need more people to care for those landscapes,

1:18.1

and that means we need to be able to pay more people and to pay them well,

1:21.3

comparatively and competitively to what they be able to be paid in other high reward industries.

1:25.8

So that's the broad context and setting.

1:29.6

I've invited Anthony Corsaro here, who's a good friend.

1:32.3

And Anthony, I've been so impressed with your work

1:34.9

and all the noise you've been making,

1:36.3

all the progress you've been making.

1:38.3

And tell us a little bit about your story, your background,

1:42.2

what got you here, and some of the fun stuff

1:44.0

you're working on today and any comments you have on my opening monologue?

1:48.0

Yeah, no, really well said and just so appreciate the opportunity to join you, John. It's always
