It was on a certain Thursday morning in December that the whole thing began with that

unaccountable motion I thought I saw in my antique Copenhagen mirror.

Something it seemed to me stirred.

Something reflected in the glass, though I was alone in my quarters.

I paused and looked intently, then deciding that the effect must be a pure illusion, resumed the interrupted brushing of my hair.

You know, I don't know why I didn't have this vision when I read it the first time, but just

now hearing that, I imagine Lovecraft with long blonde tresses sitting in his mirror brushing them

I brush my hair a vigilantillion times before bed every night.

Actually, I haven't seen this guy's name before. What's the deal with Henry S. Whitehead?

Well, Henry S. Whitehead was a correspondence friend of Lovecraft.

And Lovecraft actually went to visit him in Florida, the summer of 31 when he was down there,

and he stayed with him for like three weeks and there's

there's a funny anecdote about him getting a group of young boys at a boys club and

Lovecraft does this kind of impromptu narration of the cats of Althar for the boys.

And supposedly they added up and thought it was great.
